This course will focus on diving deeper into the relational database model, with aspects of practical implementation thrown in.

We want information - again, and more of it!

Back in COMP2007 we took a whistle-stop tour of database analysis and design. In this course we get to cover more ground and go into more depth.

So we'll take a comprehensive look at the relational model, incluidng relational algebra. We'll look at how to model and implement a real-life scenario. We'll look at the theory of functional dependency which will introduce us to even more than the three normal forms you've met so far.

Then we'll move onto some practical considerations for implementation such as indexing, query optimization, and the implications of parallel systems.
