Abstract:
A new approach to parameter extraction is presented in which an "open" circuit simulation tool is used instead of traditional model equations. The approach has been implemented in the FIT-2 extraction program. Three basic advantages of the proposed approach are: (1) explicit model equations need not be known as they are provided by the circuit simulation environment, (2) fitting can be performed not only for single devices but for functional blocks or whole circuits as well, and (3) the same extractor can be used for a variety of devices and/or device models. In this paper, a fitting strategy is presented for heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBT) using the FIT-2 program. The order of fitted electrical parameters and the optimization methods used are discussed.
