Abstract:

Performace analysis of communication systems that support quality of service is discussed in this paper. The developed models take into account multiservice network architecture, i.e., themodels support transmission of data belonging to different classes of traffic. Simple priority queueing models with three levels of priorities are used for illustration of properties of such systems, especially when the traffic becomes intensive. Timed Petri nets are used for modeling the communication systems and discrete--event simulation provides performance characteristics of developed models. The paper shows that timed Petri nets offer a convenient, flexible and effective approach to modeling and performance analysis of computer networks.
