Meteorites and Rabbits

Now available on Remix: ThaSauce and OverClocked ReMix!

An arrangement of 'Stardust Road' by Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo,
from the 2007 Wii game Super Mario Galaxy.

Apart from a few minor tweaks, this song was completed in under one week for the People's Remixing Competition held at ThaSauce and OverClocked Remix. It begins off ambient with some heavily filtered pads, and gradually builds into a nigh-full string orchestra. I threw in a theremin-esque synth for kicks.

Late Snows of Winter (Work In Progress)

DOWNLOAD: MP3 - 5.1MB, 192kbps CBR

An Arrangement of 'Erana's Peace' by Mark Seibert,
from the 1989 PC game Quest for Glory: So You Want To Be A Hero.

This one has been a 'work in progress' for much too long. It started as an entry for the 2008 Freshly Baked Remixer Challenge I've been slowly (well, very slowly) working on upgrading the sampled instruments and re-recording as much of the original guitar parts as I can. There are still some timing and mixing issues, and all of the lead parts haven't been re-recorded, but it's leaps and bounds above my first version.

Little Drummer Boy

DOWNLOAD: MP3 - 5.4MB, 192kbps CBR

An Arrangement of 'Little Drummer Boy',
made for the compilation album
An OverClocked Christmas.

My first attempt at a Christmas song. Some of the samples I used when I first made this make me cringe a little today, but I'm pretty happy with it. The pizzicato string parts were 'inspired by' (read: borrowed from) Enya's 'Only Time'.

Winter Fairy-Tale

DOWNLOAD: MP3 - 4.2MB, 187kbps VBR

An Arrangement of Boney M.'s 'Winter Fairy-Tale' originally composed by H. Baierl,
made for the compilation album
An OverClocked Christmas v.3.

My third contribution to the AOCC compilation series, and the first thing I recorded with my new (very cheap) guitar.

Original Works

Through The Ringer artwork

Through The Ringer EP

Available at Wardriver:ThaSauce

A collection of songs created using only a cell phone in February 2010. My first 'proper' album release. It started as an entry for the RPM Challenge but I wasn't able to complete enough material to meet the requirements. So, instead, I picked the 5 best tracks and released them as a free downloadable EP.

Ellipses

DOWNLOAD: MP3 - 3.9MB, 188kbps VBR

Minimalist electronica. The entire song consists of one basic pulse synth (ran through at least a dozen different filters) and sampled acoustic guitar chords. I'm quite happy with how this one turned out, especially given the self-imposed limitations I worked with for this piece.

This Is Not What I Wanted

DOWNLOAD: MP3 - 1.2MB, 171kbps VBR

An attempt at a drum and bass track. Apart from a few adjustments, this "song" (I use the term loosely) was completed in under an hour for ThaSauce's One Hour Competition.

ambient crap

DOWNLOAD: MP3 - 1.4MB, 142kbps VBR

Another entry for ThaSauce's One Hour Competition. As the slightly self-deprecating title might suggest, this is more of a soundscape than a song. The majority of the sounds you hear in this one are fairly generic synths, pads, and samples (with my sampled exhale and my own thunder recording being the only notable exceptions) ran through several processing effects, namely those included with the FREE KORE Player.
The feedback I received on this piece was better than expected. DJMokram, a fellow compo participant, had this to say:
"Having tried that kind of musical excursion myself, I can attest that making that kind of ambient track & nailing it isn't easy, far from that. Jmr manages to put you in the middle of nowhere, turn the lights off, and let you being the prey of his own vision. A very ambient yet imaginative track, that would totally fit in games with some heavy atmosphere like F.E.A.R. for example."

No Choice (Work in Progress)

DOWNLOAD: MP3 - 3.1MB, 169kbps VBR

This song has sadly been a Work in Progress for 2 years as of today, August 10. The sad part isn't that I haven't worked on it, it's just to the point where I don't even save any of the changes I make because they're not up to par with the rest of the song.
The song is heavily (perhaps too heavily) inspired by zircon's Nitronic from the album Antigravity.

John Jeddore: Acoustic Guitar, Drums
Jeffrey Roberts: Keyboards, Guitar Overdubs, Editing and Mixing
Originally recorded in 2006 for the split album Everything Falls Apart.
Remixed and remastered 2009.

This song originally had lyrics (I think I still have a demo with them...), but for some reason we never recorded them. Since I felt it was still a strong song, I cut out what would have been the first verse and chorus and turned it into a shorter instrumental. Originally, my sole musical contribution to the song was the short keyboard bit, but for this version I've added a sampled bass track and a relatively minor guitar overdub (chances are you won't even notice). As well, I've upped the production level a little (mainly in an attempt to salvage the horrible-sounding drum recording...).

This Is Your Brain On Me

John Jeddore: Electric Guitar, Samples
Jeffrey Roberts: Sampled Drums, Bass, and Strings, Mixing
Originally recorded in 2006, remixed and remastered 2009.

Had to look around a bit to find the project file for this one. I really wanted to include it here, mainly because it's completely different from anything I've attempted before (and since!). From what I recall, this was never intended to become a 'song': it started off as single guitar track which I was (spontaneously) sent, to which I (spontaneously) added sampled drum, bass, and... a string soundfont ran through a distortion plugin. Yeah.
Later, vocals were added, but the original recording is long lost.

XOC and Heavy Friends Part 3: The Sumo Anagram Fiend artwork

A Real Urban Type Of Guy

From XOC and Heavy Friends Part 3: The Sumo Anagram Fiend

XOC (Jason Cox): Arranging, editing, mixing
Jeffrey Roberts: Plastic Coin Jar Drumming
The (other) Heavy Friends: Everything else

This one's not really a full collaboration; it's more of a contribution. The entire Heavy Friends series of albums/EPs consists of essentially random contributions from dozens of different people, all edited and sequenced into full songs by XOC. My contribution forms part of the drum track used in the vocal break about half way through the song.

Don't Quantize Yourself

From XOC and Heavy Friends Part 3: The Sumo Anagram Fiend

XOC (Jason Cox): Arranging, editing, mixing
Jeffrey Roberts: Twin-Bell Alarm Clock
The (other) Heavy Friends: Everything else

For this one, I recorded a 4 or 5 second clip of my alarm clock ringing. When I first heard this song, I didn't even realize my recording was used until I saw my name in the credits. XOC, the genius that he is, slowed it down significantly and used it to form one of the 'droning' sounds that runs through the majority of the intro.

Triangular Womanizer

VIDEO: Watch it on YouTube
ARTWORK: JPG - 145KB, 500x500

A mashup of:
'Triangular' by Chromelodeon, from the 2007 album The Final Recordings,
and 'Womanizer' by Britney Spears, from the 2008 album Circus.

Easily my craziest musical creation. Inspired by a short clip created by Shawn Phase of Temp Sound Solutions. This mashup was created over a period of two or three days, most of which was spent doing minor, repetitive tweaks to the 35+ vocal slices to keep them from falling out of sync with the backing track. A very painful, painstaking process. It was worth it, though: a few days after posting this song, I was in contact with one of the former members of Chromelodeon; he had this to say:
"that britney mix is intense. the guys that have heard it are way into it."

Can You Feel The Tootsee Roll?

DOWNLOAD: MP3 - 6.2MB, 215kbps VBR

A mashup of:
'Can You Feel The Sunshine?' by Richard Jacques, from the video game Sonic R,
and 'Toosee Roll' by 69 Boyz, from the album 199Quad.

Scratch what I said above. THIS is my craziest musical creation. Made at the request of Level 99.
