Final call for Gander Judo tournament & Call for SportFest volunteers

Hi Folks;

The last Newfoundland & Labrador Judo Association Provincial Judo Tournament for this season will take place on May 5 in Gander. There will be a technical clinic on Sunday morning after the tournament with Atlantic Regional Judo Technical Officer Scott Tanner. We will be driving to Gander Friday afternoon and returning to St. John’s on Sunday afternoon. Accommodations will be at Sinbads Hotel in Gander.

We encourage all club members who are age 9 and up and yellow belt or higher to participate. It is a great opportunity to meet new judo people and try out the skills developed over the past year!

The costs for this trip will be:

$50 per person transportation & accommodation
$40 per competitor tournament registration
Money for personal food

I need to know who will be going to the tournament by Wednesday, March 28 at the latest as we are under a tight deadline to make hotel reservations. Please contact me by email or in person to let me know if you are going. Email me at georger@mun.ca or phone 895-6716.

On a different topic the NLJA will have a judo exhibit at this year’s SportFest taking place in St. John’s on May 10-12. NLJA needs volunteers to help demonstrate judo for school kids (Thursday and Friday 9-3 PM) and the general public on Saturday (9 – 5 PM). If you are a green belt or higher please contact me if you are interested in helping out.

Judo Classes CANCELLED, Wednesday, March 7, 2012

Hi Folks;

MUN Judo classes are cancelled for this evening, March 7 due to the weather. Normal class schedule will resume on Thursday. Note that our standard club policy is to cancel classes when the schools close due to weather events.

UPDATE – MUN Dojo reopens Monday evening, Feb. 6

HI Folks;

The sub-floor installation is completed and looks (and feels) great! The normal training schedule will resume on Monday evening. There are a few odds n’ ends to finish up but the main work is done.

Do drop by and try out the new subfloor. It gives a whole new feel to doing breakfalls!
