Ugent Notice – Dojo closed for Renovations Jan. 30-Feb. 3 & Last call for Labrador Judo Tournament

Sorry for the short notice but the dojo will be closed the week of Monday January 30  to Friday Feb. 3, 2012 for renovations.  Our new sub-floor will be installed which will make landing on the mats a lot easier!  If the dojo is available to open earlier than currently scheduled I will notify you by email.

This is also the last call for anyone interested attending the Labrador Provincial Judo Tournament, Feb. 17-19 in Goose Bay.  The approximate cost for individuals would be $200 for air fare plus tournament registration and food.  The provincial association and the MUN Judo Club will subsidize the air fare to Goose Bay and take care of accommodation costs there.  If you are interested in going email me by Saturday, Jan. 28 at the latest!

Cheers

George

    Dojo Move, Xmas Break

    November 21, 2011

    To all MUN Judoka and Parents;

    The fall semester has been a busy time again this year. Our club recently hosted the Fall Provincial Judo Tournament and many of our members did very well. You can view the results at http://www.judonl.ca/docs/NLJAFall2011Results.pdf . Congratulations to all who participated in the tournament and clinic or volunteered to help make the tournament such a success!

    Important news is that effective Wednesday, November 23 we are moving our dojo to a new space at Global Gym, 92 Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s between New Cove Road and Portugal Cove Road. This will be a dedicated space where we can set out our mats permanently and make a real home for our club. Access to the dojo will be through the entrance on Elizabeth Avenue and change rooms and showers will be available in the Global Gym facilities. It will be important for all club members to bring zori (sandals) to use if they need to leave the dojo to use the facilities within Global Gym. Club membership ID cards will be issued to all club members to use when accessing the Global Gym facilities.

    Thanks to Shawn Pendergast we have a new club website at http://www.cs.mun.ca/~munjudo/ .

    Here are important schedule notes for the remainder of this semester.

    1. Grading for judoka ready to be promoted will take place in early December. Coaches will announce specific times.

    2. Monday, December 12 will be the last judo class for children before Christmas. Teens and Senior members will continue to train until Thursday, Dec. 22.

    3. Annual Christmas bowling party will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 7:15-8:30 PM. All club members are invited to join us for an hour of free bowling followed by pizza at Plaza Bowl on Ropewalk Lane. Please be there and ready to bowl by 7:10 PM.

    4. Judo training will resume after the Christmas holidays on Monday, January 9, 2011

    Looking forward to the Spring there will be provincial tournament in Goose Bay Labrador in February and another provincial tournament in Gander in early May. The Atlantic Judo Championships will be in Moncton, N.B. in early March. In May we will be winding up the year the year again with a visit to Saint Pierre et Miquelon in late May.

    We are now entering the winter season when weather can cause transportation problems. Our club policy on weather closures is that if the schools are closed then any judo classes for that day are cancelled as well.

    For more information about any of these activities contact either Maurice or George. Maurice can be contacted at 726-0945 or email him at Msheppard@.gov.nl.ca , /msheppard01@nf.sympatico.ca. Contact George at 895-6716(h) or email to georger@mun.ca

    Yours in Judo
