Summer Update

Hi Folks;

Here are some important news items for judoka and parents.

  1.  Summer schedule – Effective June 12 we will be moving to a twice a week schedule for a combined  teen and adult class until the end of August:  Monday 7-8:30 PM, Wednesday 7-8:30 PM.  There will be kata on Wednesdays at 6:30-7 PM with the exception that kata is cancelled for Wednesday, June 12.  Saturday classes from 11-12:30 will continue on June 15, 22, and 29 only.  Children’s classes are finished for the summer season as of June 5.  Cross training running sessions will take place 1 hour before classes.
  2. Fall 2013/14 Season registration will take place on Monday, Sept. 9 with training beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.
  3. Renew now for a $20 discount on 2013/14 registration!  Renew your registration before August 15 and you will receive a $20 discount on the registration rate for 2013/14.  Contact George Beckett or your coach if you wish to register before September.
  4. Interested in participating in a MUN Judo Club Parents Committee?  We are interested in trying to start up a parent’s committee for the club.  If you are interested please email George Beckett at gbeckett@nl.rogers.com

MUN Judo Update, April 10, 2013

Hi Folks;

Congratulations to all the club members who participated in the very successful Ne-Waza tournament at the club dojo in late March. A good time was had by all!

Here is some important information to note about upcoming events and dates:

1. April 27-28, NLJA High Performance Coordinator Tracy Angus will be visiting St. John’s and holding a series of technical clinics at the MUN Dojo. All club members are invited to attend the sessions! Club members interested in Canada Winter Games should attend all of the Teen/Adult sessions.
Saturday April 27
• 0900-1030 Kids session all clubs & emphasis on coaching kids – all kids (under 13) welcome!

• 1100-1300 Teen/Adults session all clubs

• 1300-1400 Lunch break

• 1400-1600 Teen/Adults session all clubs

• Saturday evening 7-8:30 coaching update session – MUN Dojo – Tracy will discuss the impact of recent rule changes and issues of interest to coaches

Sunday, April 28
• 0930-1130 Teen/Adults session all clubs

• 1130-1300 Break

• 1300-1500 Open session with coaches and interested athletes if people are interested in another session

2. Saint Pierre et Miquelon trip, May 24 -26 , Sensei Maurice invites all of you to be part of the group of 90 (includes parents, athletes of all ages and coaches and Judo clubs from Goose Bay, Gander, Stephenville Crossing and MUN)) going to St. Pierre on May 24 – 26 by ferry from Fortune. Cost is $110.00 per athlete (return Ferry and Road Transportation) with Cheque to MUN Judo or cash to George or Maurice by May 15. Athlete should take another $80.00 for food. Teen Athletes will be billeted in St. Pierre unless they stay with their parent in Dojo; kids will stay with a parent in Dojo. All parents and adult Judoka are welcome to stay free with your own sleeping bag in Dojo or there are hotels available The attached spreadsheet needs to be completed with your information and sent back to me electronically. Please confirm your attendance or if you are not going so I can confirm all reservations for ferry, if you or your parents are driving and how much space you have available for others. If you need more information let me know as I need to finalize all information including road transportation and we will leave St. John’s for Fortune at 7:45AM and drive will take 4.5 hours with lunch in Marystown. Ferry leaves Fortune at 1:30PM on Friday and arrives back in Fortune at 2:45PM on Sunday.

3. Grading for club members for the winter/spring semester will take place in mid-May. Contact your coach for exact dates

4. End of Judo training for this season
a. Kids Judo will end on Wednesday, June 5
b. Teens and adults will end on Thursday, July 25
c. Some individual training sessions will continue throughout the summer by arrangement with coaches

MUN Judo Update, March 14, 2013

Hi Folks;

Here is an update on upcoming MUN Judo Club activities:

Ne-waza tournament on Sunday March 17 at the MUN Dojo. Registration is $5. Kids under 13 should be at the dojo by 11 AM to complete registration and warmup. Competition will start at 11:30 am. Any teens or adults interested in participating should not arrive at the dojo until 12:30 pm as space will be tight in the dojo area. Reminder that access to the dojo is only through the Elizabeth Avenue entrance. Pre-registration for this tournament is required. Anyone interested in participating must contact me by 7 PM today, Thursday.

Judo classes on Monday, March 18 are cancelled due to the St. Patrick’s day holiday.

Judo classes on Saturday, March 30 are cancelled due to the Easter weekend. Normal training will continue on Monday, April 1

Congratulations to all of our athletes who competed at the recent Atlantic Judo Championships in Truro, N.S. All fought well. Shakeeb Kazemipur won a gold medal in the U20 100+ KG category and Ethan Fennell won a silver medal in the U18 90KG category.

Ne-waza tournament at MUN Dojo, Sunday, March 17

March 4, 2013

To all MUN Judoka and Parents;

This is a quick note to notify you about an upcoming event.

On Sunday, March 17 our club is hosting a ne-waza (ground technique only) tournament in our dojo beginning at 12 noon. All registered club members may participate (including white and white/yellow belts, age 6 and older) if their coach approves. Registration cost is $5. All participants under age 13 will receive a participation medal.

Anyone participating must notify their coach by Wednesday, March 13 at the latest. Registration will be at the dojo beginning at 11:30 AM on March 17.

Also I would like to wish good luck to our club members who are participating in the Atlantic Judo Championships in Truro, N.S. this weekend. Good luck to:
