Biography

Dr. Orland Hoeber is an Assistant Professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. His primary research interests are in the fields of information visualization, visualization of oceanographic data, geo-visual analytics, web search interfaces, web search personalization, human-computer interaction, mobile computing, and web intelligence. Dr. Hoeber completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Regina in 2007. His doctoral research focused on the development of next-generation Web search interfaces that take advantage of the human visual processing capabilities, supporting both the effective construction of queries, and the interactive exploration of Web search results. TheHotMap.com (currently in beta-version) is a re-development of his research prototypes as a public Web search interface. Dr. Hoeber is one of the principal investigators in the User Experience Lab at Memorial University.
