Cape Spear North(View of Signal Hill)

This is the most easterly point of land in all of North America. The Cape
Spear lighthouse is oldest lighthouse in Newfoundland. It was built in 1835 and served as a lighthouse from 1836 to 1955 when it was replace with the new concrete lighthouse that
stands there today. It is interesting to note that the Cape Spear
lighthouse has been tended by one family for the last 150 years. James
Cantwell was named to the post in 1845. Still today, the new automated
lighthouse is tended by a descendant of James Cantwell
