Fort Amherst to Cape Spear, Saturday 22 May 2004

Dwight Kuo drove first to Cape Spear. We met Mark and Kurt there. Leaving Dwight's car in the lighthouse carpark. While Mark drove all of us back to Saint John, leaving his car at Fort Amherst.

Cape Spear

Cape spear is regarded as the most eastern edge of north america. Certainly of Canada.

Wales seen in distance
Me and Christoph Richter at the eastern edge of Canada.

No wales shown
With glasses, whales outside the entrance to Saint John's harbour could been seen spouting.

Fort Amhurst to Fresh Water Bay

Mostly the day was fine but after passing the whales (eg) we did hit a patch of cloud.

Fresh Water Bay

We stopped in the sunshine by the bay after a steep descent and had a late lunch.
fresh water bay

The freshwater is separated from the sea by a huge, possibly natural (or enhanced) bar of boulders. Strewn with large chunks of broken and rusting ship. When halfway across, a party coming from the opposite side asked why we didn't use the path!

See Gulls!

End of the Trial

end of trial
Mark, Dwight Kuo, Christoph Richter and Kurt.

Surprisingly when we reached the car park some where keen to complete the trail. Officially this is at the second (ie the furthest:-( light house. So we set off for a few more yards, including running1 up hundreds of wooden stairs.
