I am an Associate Professor at Memorial University in St. John’s, Canada.  My position is held jointly between the Department of Computer Science and the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science.

As a researcher I am interested in autonomy and simplicity and I love it when they go together!  The autonomous agents that I deal with are usually robots and I am particularly interested in controlling robots using simple mechanisms.  For my Ph.D work I looked at guiding a robot to a home location using computationally inexpensive mechanisms simple enough to be used by ants and bees.  Since I started work at Memorial in 2005 I have extended this work and also considered related problems such as route following.  At the moment I am focused on swarm robotics and the autonomous navigation of AUVs.
